ANALYSIS: Israel and Iran compete for Influence in the US through Pentagon

+ I have long suspected that with Iran's covert nuclear program for nearly 20 years Iran has probably developed at least one quite some time ago. I assume that all the Russian scientists that went south with the breakup of the Soviet Union have probably been working overtime and making more money than they ever dreamed in Russia. They are just perfecting some of the delivery systems and Tehran is setting up events to provide them a reason to use them. +

Military Analysis: Israel and Iran compete for Influence in the US through Pentagon

This article is the result of a request, almost a demand from a Pakistani community leader in the Chicago Area. He was practically livid when the news mentioned this morning Israel having a spy in the Pentagon, in the office of Douglas Feith, the Undersecretary of Defense for Policy. According to the New York Times, the FBI
investigation revealed the official passed classified policy documents to officials at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, a major pro-Israeli lobbying group, who in turn provided the information to Israeli intelligence.

The article goes on to state the bureau has evidence that the Pentagon official has provided the Israelis with a sensitive report about American policy toward Iran, according to officials. No one has been arrested and a spokesman for the Israeli embassy, David Siegel, denied the allegations, as did the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. The community leader even repeated something said by Malaysia's former Prime Minister Dr. Mahatir Mohammad, about Israel controlling the US. It is quite possible the US has proposed to Israel a joint operation against Iran.

Israel probably wishes she had such influence. I replied that Jewish people are highly organized, even before Israel was re-established, in 1948, and they take education seriously especially business and law. The reason why I have long doubted Israel controlling the US is because it has only recently dawned on the US government that Iran is a very real and near term threat and not just to the US but also to Europe and Russia and of course Iran will send military assistance to Pakistan when war becomes all out against India. The Jihad, under Persian direction, is extremely economic and very little of the world economy flows through Israel. Tehran is more of a threat to Singapore than to Israel. I remember, vividly, watching C-Span several years ago when Benjamin Netanyahu was Prime Minister of Israel. He was speaking in Washington in front of the National Press Club and said that when these missiles sales are made to the Middle East take a pencil and draw the radius of the missile's range on a map. He was hinting that obviously these missiles aren't meant for Israel. From parts of the Middle East the range is so close you can hit Israel just by throwing a rock. But that was years before 911 and before Iran undermined the US position in Iraq.

Those of you who read my previous article, "The Persian Influence and Timetable", know of Iran's impact, not only on the US, but also on the EU and Russia's decision making and for quite some time, despite the Khomeini revolution. Iran is even more influential than even the rise of OPEC during the 1970's which was probably the first threat to Israel's influence in Washington, an influence I always believed was overrated. As you know I have a conspiratorial interpretation of history and with portraying Israel as being so effective in controlling American foreign policy, in the Middle East, it provides the US and Europe with a convenient scapegoat to blame if something goes wrong. You have long had a blame Israel lobby but it is something of a secret that would reveal more of the true nature of the West's decision making and it reaches to the highest level of Western society. That is why in Brussels, in their Defense Ministry, has the painting "Siege of Jerusalem", a scene of the first Crusades. That is probably why the EU is Iran's leading trade partner. Everyone knows the Jihad pays well which is why I am grateful today's New York Times article referred to a key figure in the Iran-Contra Scandal of 1987.

The article states the Pentagon analyst, under suspicion, was one of two department officials who traveled to Paris for a secret meeting with Manucher Ghorbanifar, an Iranian arms dealer who had been a central figure in the scandal. The article continues by saying, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld confirmed last year that the
secret meeting had occurred but he defended it as an appropriate diplomatic effort and added the talks went nowhere. The New York Times article concludes by saying it was not immediately clear whether the espionage investigation was directly related to the secret meeting in Paris of if there were immediate evidence if money had changed hands for classified information.

The article also mentioned that Douglas Feith, before the war with Iraq, created a special intelligence unit that sought to build a case for Iraq's ties to Al-Qaeda, an effort that has since been heavily criticized by American intelligence professionals. This was part of the overall effort to invent what I call words of mass deception, along with British intelligence to justify attacking Iraq which I mentioned in my previous article it was obvious Saddam Hussein could have been removed in 1991. But the day after the Gulf War ended CNN shows the London branch office of Bechtel Group invited to Iran. Bechtel constructs military bases, like the kind they built for Saudi
Arabia. Iran wanted something very similar but first they wanted damage done to Iraq's military. When the bases are completed Saddam Hussein is then removed.

Mr. Rumsfeld admitting the meeting occurred last year in Paris coincides with the time US Representative Curt Weldon was in Paris meeting former Iranian generals. They served during the rule of the Shah and they informed him that Iran was funneling to Muqtada al-Sadr $75-80 million dollars. Mr. Weldon discussed this on C-Span in June and added he hopes war with Iran could be avoided. This should come as no shock. Of course Tehran, not to mention the House of Saud and other Islamic establishments, did not wish the US/Halliburton to overstay their welcome. This is why I refuse to believe the official myth of serious differences between Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani and al-Sadr. And the reason the Paris talks went nowhere is because Iran is saying, as diplomatically as possible, the US, not to mention the West has outlived their usefulness. So perhaps Mr. Feith is now being
employed to seek reasons to build a case to attack Iran. With any kind of integrity in America's or the West and Russian decision making that case could have been made quite some time ago. This is why Iran's Defense Minister Adm. Ali Shamkani stated publicly over Al-Jazeera that Iran will not sit back and wait for the US to attack first. It has also been admitted that though Israel was very successful in destroying Iraq's nuclear facility in 1981, provided by the French, Iran's facilities are very well protected. Iran's government has been saying they are by no means Iraq.

The Council of Guardians intends to maintain the initiative by directing the Bush administration's attention elsewhere. Last week the US announced they now expect more attacks to happen in Uzbekistan. It has the least popular of all the governments in Central Asia, due to enormous corruption, the largest population in the region and an enormous concentration of raw materials crucial to any nations war effort plus the world's fifth largest producer of gold. It also has air bases the US and other Allied nations can use and I believe some US ground troops have recently arrived. Iran's Defense Minister definitely wants to see how accurate his new missile, the Shahab-3, is with its 810mile range. All of Uzbekistan is easily within its range.

Tehran also realizes the Balkans is another crisis region they can easily exploit which is why Iran has embraced all Balkan people. Iran established relations with Croatia in 1992 and has since stated, publicly, Croatia is their entry into Central Europe. That is why Germany sent to Poland Leopard tanks and the US helped Poland to
upgrade her air force. Currently Macedonia is more of a flash point than even Kosovo. A Macedonian town, whose name I believe is Sturga, is now on the verge of declaring their independence from the rest of
Macedonia. They are angry at a recent agreement, which would give more influence to the Albanian population. The division of Yugoslavia has obviously unleashed a fanatical wave of sub-divisions from the Adriatic to the Caspian. Europe is fragmenting and is in no position to respond with any degree of military effectiveness.

These are just a few of the reasons information from Israel is more influential than secret business deals with Iran. Recent news reports have mentioned Israel believes Iran is close to a nuclear bomb. I have long suspected that with Iran's covert nuclear program for nearly 20 years Iran has probably developed at least one quite some time ago. I assume that all the Russian scientists that went south with the breakup of the Soviet Union have probably been working overtime and making more money than they ever dreamed in Russia. They are just perfecting some of the delivery systems and Tehran is setting up events to provide them a reason to use them. Again recently in Paris, where Khomeini was in exile, there was an antagonistic confrontation between Iran and the EU over Iran's nuclear program. Iran presented the EU with a list of demands and showed no interest in the European position. An article had to admit both sides were talking past each other. No doubt this also improves Israel's standing with the EU, which ludicrously has convinced itself, and a lot of the US, that the main reason for instability in the Middle East is the Palestinian crisis. Iran of course encourages the world to believe so by stating quite often and loudly what it can do to Israel because Iran knows a lot of the world likes to hear it. It is the Council of Guardians pattern of deception which allowed Mohammad Khatami to become head of state while pretending to be moderate and advocating the peaceful dialogue. The "dialogue" Iran has had in mind all along is the increasingly hostile and intense negotiations they are leading with the West, Russia and with India through Pakistan.

This is what led to the very recent trip made to Tehran by Pakistan's Foreign Minister. Right afterward Pakistan began to express its impatience concerning India's lack of resolve in seriously negotiating an end to the Kashmir conflict. Imagine the attention the US and other countries would be forced to give to that front when the fighting
becomes all out. It will wipe Iraq completely off the headlines.

Tel Aviv's primary concern may now be not its own security but what kind of condition its so-called friends will be in when the Jihad smoke clears. Yes they are perhaps receiving more of a hearing than ever since their re-establishment because the West finally realizes Israel is not the Jihad priority. But I can't see how they can feel
reassured when the US is obviously trapped in Iraq, which a corrupt American administration can't see and while the EU would wish Iran would attack Israel. Some in the West still fantasize that Sunni Saudi Arabia is "petrified", the term used by the British journalist, of Shiite Iran and dream of a war between the two like another Iran/Iraq War, which in the West was often called a weapons dealer dream.

This really has very little to do with the Palestinian situation. Yes it is an important issue but a lot of Islamic establishments realize that with a more reliable Palestinian leadership it would add more influence to the Palestinian position but in the meantime they know the real reason for the Jihad is because the Islamic world has long resented what if feels was and is Western influence and interference in their affairs which has continued for so much of modern history. It is not the Palestinian position the Islamic world is so concerned about but primarily their own.

In order to match the influence of either Iran or Israel with Washington it would be best to continue to develop strong economies under leadership with a serious sense of national responsibility. This is probably what led President Pervez Musharraf to appoint a banker as Prime Minister. Mr. Shaukat Aziz played a crucial role in assisting Pakistan out of her economic crisis as a result of sanctions levied against them because of nuclear tests as a response to India. Military victories would also add to ones influence, especially against nations which have been the greatest threat to Islamic countries. Strong economies are impossible as long as one is controlled or seriously threatened by outsiders.
