Bangladesh: Anybody for a Taslima Nasreen flick!

Taslima Nasreen wants to direct film

Celebrated writer Taslima Nasreen, wishing to branch out in her creative experiment, wants to direct a movie someday, provided she gets a really good script.

Before leaving for Europe, Taslima said that as a creative person, she did not want to be confined to only one medium.

"I can explore different media to reach out to people and film direction can be one such medium," the exiled writer, who was issued a fatwa by fundementalists of her country and also an arrest warrant by a court, said.

Asked if there was a possibility of her taking up one of her own works for film direction, she said it was possible.

She said film rights for her novel French Lover have been bought by New Delhi-based Bag Films, but there was no chance at present of her directing the film.

Speaking on Bengali films, Taslima said she did not understand why some prominent Bengali directors were roping in film stars from outside. "Does it enhance the film's standard? I am really at a loss." she pointed out.

She said she was in the process of setting up a cine club, named tentatively as 'Bhalo Chhabi' (quality cinema), which would enable film enthusiasts to exchange views on world cinema at regular sessions and savour cinematic marvels from different countries.
